2009 Theme: Goddesses, Angels, & Amazons

Our 2009 Festival theme was “Goddesses, Angels, & Amazons.” The following statements from our producers, Vick and Diana, offer some perspective on the three elements of this theme.

Goddesses

The Goddess is the mother of all, the Creatrix, the Lady of the Beasts, the Great Mother who has been with us for eons. She has a myriad of names and faces, always different, always the same. (Diana Rivers)

The Goddess is the Great Mystery of all time, beautiful in her ancient, elusive, universal appeal. Even as science moves us beyond the Earth, into the Cosmos and beyond, she continues to haunt us as the mother, the womb, the beginning of all creation. (Vick Kelley)

Angels

angel1The Angel represents that part of ourselves that is pure spirit; that is not earth bound; that takes wing, flies, and enters realms we only dream about. She is also that part of ourselves that is outside of us watching from above and keeping us from harm. (Diana Rivers)

The Angel represents all that is gentle, nurturing, and wise in the nature of women. She is the embodiment of compassion, forgiveness, and hope. When we are in touch with our angel selves we can become light and joyful, creative and playful, fertile and generous. (Vick Kelley)

Amazons

The Amazon is the keeper of the gate, the guardian, the one who stands brave and strong in the face of adversity. (Diana Rivers)

Keenly aware of the injustice and hostile aggression toward women in the world, the Amazon is prepared to do battle to protect and defend her tribe. She is the voice that screams and rages inside all women under assault, unifying our charge against all the ways the patriarch influences, limits, and controls the full expression and inclusion of women. (Vick Kelley)
